Chapter 7
"You are going to your lessons really early, Sho-kun."
Sho turned to see a very sleepy Ohno rubbing his eyes as he sat up and watched him leave.
"Sorry, did I wake you? You need me to prepare something for you?"
"Please, don't kill me with your cooking."
Sho laughed as he walked over and gave Ohno a soft bop on the head. "I can't go wrong with cereal, can I?"
"Actually you can. For all we know you could be using condensed milk instead of fresh milk."
Sho rolled his eyes. "Give me a little credit, won't you? I'll make some cereal for you."
He dropped his bag by the door and proceeded to the fridge. Meanwhile, Ohno shuffled slowly to the kitchen and looked at Sho.
"Nino-kun has been asking about you."
Sho felt his heart thud for a moment.
".. Yeah. I would expect that he would."
"You asked me to keep him away from you and not tell him where you go. Are you avoiding him?"
Sho finished pouring milk into some cereal in a bowl and handed it over to Ohno.
"I mean, I agreed to help you and I still will. But… why would you avoid him?"
"There are just a bunch of things I need to sort out right now," Sho said, "I need time alone away from him to do so. But I promise, you don't have to do this for too long, okay?"
Ohno nodded understandingly.
"Oh, and another thing,"Sho said, "could you ask Nino out to go shopping?"
Ohno laughed. "That is one very weird request, but alright. I was planning on getting some fishing magazines at that huge bookstore tomorrow. What does he like?"
Sho smiled sadly to himself as he gave his answer.

Hiding from Nino, Sho had learnt, was tough.
It did not matter that the entire campus is huge- somehow or rather, he was absolutely sure he would be seeing Nino at the Arts wing.
So naturally, he did what he never would have done before- for the past week since he admitted his feelings for Nino to himself, he went to his lessons VERY early, right when the doors to the lecture theatres first opened for the day. He had ignored Nino's messages and referred to both their schedules... to ensure that they won't meet.
Presently, Sho glanced up at the clock- his lessons are about to end. Soon after he heard the lecturer conclude the lesson, he kept his belongings.
He couldn't get half the content of his lessons for the day in his head- far too much was on his mind. He sighed as he sauntered out of the lecture theatre. Suddenly, someone grabbed him firmly by his backpack and dragged him away from the crowd. He struggled and managed to break away with his strength, only to find a rather pissed-off Nino glaring at him.
"So, after creating our operation and carrying it this far, you decided to abandon me?"
"That is not it at all! You should know that!"
"Really? Because I don't. I mean, how can you expect me to know that when you suddenly disappeared on me for a whole week? Aiba-kun still sees you. Ohno-kun still sees you. Heck, even Jun-kun said that he saw you at the cafeteria last Thursday and Friday. But no, apparently it's too much for you to even see ME, of all people."
"Haven't you considered the possibility that I needed space to devise a way for you to confess your feelings to Satoshi-kun? Which reminds me," Sho informed, "your opportunity comes tomorrow. He's planning on getting some fishing magazines, so he will take you shopping tomorrow."
Nino narrowed his eyes at him as he said so, a slightly complicated expression on his face. That was not a reaction that Sho had expected.
"Nino? Is everything okay?"
"Er, yeah, sure," Nino sputtered as if shaken out of a daze,"yeah, that's..that's cool. I'll have fun with him tomorrow."
Sho nodded slowly as he uncertainly observed Nino's odd reaction.
"Ooookay then that's settled. Good luck with your confession tomorrow. Just.. keep it simple. Satoshi-kun is someone who likes things uncomplicated and natural."
Nino nodded but said nothing. Sho decided to take it as a good sign anyway.
"I guess this is it, huh?" Sho said with a huge sigh, "it took us both months to get close to our crushes and actually confess to them, but I would say our partnership was a success, no?"
Nino chuckled softly to himself and nodded.
"Yeah. It is a big improvement from me slipping a letter into someone's bag."
"Technically, you didn't even make it to that point because you dropped your frigging letter. Which reminds me,” Sho said as he reached into his folders and pulled out a familiar-looking envelope that still looked as smooth as it did several months ago.
"Yes," Nino recalled with a laugh, "yes I did drop it, didn't I?"
The two of them then walked over to a railing and leaned over to look at the grandstands where they would meet.
"I guess I won't be going back there again with all the mud and stone-grill concrete." Sho remarked as he pointed at their meeting place.
Nino laughed out loud.
"You didn't like it even with those newspaper cushions you made?"
"Hell no. It’s hot as hell when it’s sunny and super cold when it’s rainy. I'd really rather we met in the comfort of our own rooms."
"Yeah, I would have preferred that too if not for the fact that both our crushes happened to be each other's roommates."
"It couldn't be helped then, huh!"
"Exactly!"
Yet another lapse of uncomfortable silence fell between them, as Sho tried to keep himself from bolting right out of Nino's sight again.
"Well, I have to get going, I have a presentation to prepare," Sho spoke as he turned to look at Nino with a smile, "I'm sure all will go well tomorrow."
An unreadable expression crossed Nino's face.
"You think so?"
"Of course. Aiba and I will hear all about it afterwards, yeah?"
"Sho-kun," Nino said firmly, "…you didn't confess to Aiba-kun, did you?"
Sho felt his blood run cold.
"What?"
"I mean, if you did, I know he would have told me, since he knows both of us and I'm his roommate."
"Well, technically, I guess I did not confess to him," Sho answered, holding on to the one lie he could think of, "because I sort of chickened out."
Nino seemed to stop short at that answer.
"You.. chickened out?"
"Yeah! But it's perfectly okay, because tomorrow I will find him at lunch and tell him!"
"Sho.."
"Wow, look how time flies. I REALLY got to leave now." With that, Sho dashed away from Nino, and stopped. He turned to look at him.
"Good luck with Satoshi-kun tomorrow!"
"Oi!"
Sho turned tail and ran off, feeling the first warm tear fall past his cheeks.
Nino stood right where he was as he watched Sho leave, a painful expression on his face.
"You liar," Nino whispered under his breath, "you stupid, stupid liar. You can’t even come up with a better lie than that."
