Chapter 9
"Sho-kun!" Nino yelled as he hammered his fist against the door to Sho's dorm room, droplets of rain falling from his damp hair to the concrete floor, "Sho-kun, open up!"
He looked down at the opening in the doorway to see that it was dark inside the room.
Sho probably was not in.
He cursed under his breath as he ran towards the canteen and took a careful look around.
Sho was not around either.
He panted shallowly as he held his sides, now aching painfully from his sprint.
"Oh my gosh, NINO!"
Nino whipped around to see Aiba jogging towards him worriedly.
"You are drenched, Nino! Come back and get dry!"
"No, not now, Aiba-cchi. I need to find Sho-kun. It's urgent."
"Eh? But least dry yourself first!" Aiba chided as he reached into his gym bag and took out a towel, which Nino took gratefully.
"Thanks. I'll find you later."
"Huh? Wait! Nino!"
Without answering Aiba, Nino ran off towards the student council room, nearly bumping into another student.
"Sorry," Nino said breathlessly, "have you seen Sh- I mean, the Student Council President?"
"Oh, Sakurai-san? He has nothing on here today."
Nino exhaled loudly, his breath coming out in a tired sigh.
"Oh.. thanks," Nino said helplessly as he felt his legs grow weak. He slowly walked away, feeling the raindrops in his hair mingle with his sweat as it trickled down his face.
Maybe Sho had lessons at that point in time- wait, no. He did not. Nino knew their schedules and Sho had no lessons that day.
He sighed as he leaned against a wall. He was out of ideas. Where could he possibly be at this point in time?
"I guess I won't be going back there again with all the mud and stone-grill concrete."
"No..fucking... way," Nino swore as he started to jog slowly towards a familiar place.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
It turns out that the towel Aiba had lent him was practically useless, Nino observed as he looked at the unceasing rain that pelted down in the field. If he was going to go to that meeting spot he knew, he would have to go out into the rain anyway.
Presently, his eyes searched into the distance.
And there he saw Sho.
Sho was sitting down at their usual spot, resting his back against the concrete wall behind him. He watched Sho stare out into the rain, his heart twinged with pain at the sight of Sho's forlorn expression.
So that was why.
He could finally understand what Sho had meant a long time ago when he could not tell Aiba that he liked him; it was the same with him after all. He couldn't tell Ohno a thing or even give him the letter that he wrote from those few months ago.
It was because his heart beats and aches for someone else.
He could not believe that he did not see it all this time when he knew Sho.
With his heart in his mouth, he trudged out slowly into the rain, ignoring how the raindrops were making him wet all over again. As he got closer, his eyes stayed focused on Sho…until Sho met his eyes.
Sho's eyes widened in shock as he stood up and jogged quickly towards Nino, grabbing hold of him by the shoulder.
"Nino?! Are you crazy?! What are you doing out here in the rain?!"
"Sho-"
"Look, whatever. I'm getting you inside our spot. You need to get out of the-"
"SHO!"
Sho jumped as Nino yelled his name. He looked at Nino, who gazed up at him with a pained expression on his face.
"…What happened? Why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be wi-"
"You are a liar. And a very bad one."
Sho seemed completely taken aback.
"Whatever the hell do you mean?"
Nino sighed and closed his eyes against the rain as he answered.
"I heard you when you talked to me in my sleep."
He could hear Sho inhale sharply at his sentence, and he opened his eyes to see Sho looking cornered and completely at a loss.
"Look, I'm sorry. I did not hold up my end of the bargain. I-"
"You're wrong. You did,"Nino said firmly,"Ohno-kun told me. You told him all the things that I like so that I would have a good time, didn’t you?"
Sho only looked away and refused to meet his eyes.
"…So? Did it go well?"
"I had fun," Nino answered. Sho nodded, a smile on his face.
"See? I told you it would go we-"
Sho was interrupted when Nino pulled him roughly towards him, wrapping his arms fast around his shoulders as he pressed their lips together.
Nino's lips felt cold from the rain against his own.
But the kiss…
The kiss burned hard against his lips, the warmth of their bodies seeping rapidly into wet skin beneath their soaked t-shirts. Nino soon parted their wet lips to gaze into Sho's bewildered eyes.
"I, too, couldn't confess to Ohno-kun," Nino said, "but... I will confess to you."
With that, Nino gently embraced Sho, the biting chill of the rain only making him draw even closer to his warm body.
"I'm in love with you too," his confession filled the private corner of their secret spot, "I can't believe I did not realise it before...but I really am."
Nino exhaled. He finally said it, and he could almost feel his confession slide off his chest as breathing finally became just a little bit easier.
Sho slowly took Nino's arms from around his shoulders and brought them down. In the next moment, Sho was dragging them quickly towards their usual spot, and Nino found himself pinned against the wall of their hideout, with Sho's hungry lips crashing against his own. He felt himself melt into the kiss as he returned it, feeling the raindrops in their hair prickle pleasantly on his neck. Sho's tongue prodded against his as it urgently explored the warm cave of his mouth, brushing against his own tongue as their kiss deepened. His mind grew as hazy as the rainy landscape behind outside their secret spot, conscious only of the sensation of Sho's lips against his own.
This time, it was Sho who drew away, and then leaned close to whisper into Nino's ear, his gentle voice gripped with emotion.
"This is too much, Nino.." Sho whispered with a sniffle,"...I love you too."
Nino threw his arms around Sho in an eager hug, an exhilaration like never before coursing through his veins. He closed his eyes as he felt Sho's body against his, remembering that feeling with all of his being.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"So much for not going back with all the mud and stone-grill concrete."
Sho shrugged as he intertwined his fingers with Nino's while they walked back from the field. They had spent the past hour cuddling in their secret spot and using Aiba's towel ( which was no less wetter than their shirts, really) to dry themselves.
"I did not know where else to go," Sho admitted, "I felt lost at the thought of Satoshi-kun and you being together when I really, really liked you. So I thought I would just stay here for one last time before I stopped coming again."
"In the rain?"
"It wasn't raining when I came here. It was cloudy, but I did not expect it to rain," Sho said and looked at Nino, "and I certainly did not expect to see you finding me."
"I looked everywhere for you, you idiot," Nino complained, "you weren't in your dorm. You weren't in the canteen. I even looked for you in the student council room and you weren't there."
"I'm sorry," Sho landed a small kiss on Nino's forehead, "I hope you won't catch a cold because of me."
"If we both take a hot shower later, I'm sure we'll be okay," Nino said reassuringly.
“But you know,” Sho said with a chuckle, “I did say that a rainy setting was not too bad an atmosphere for confessing your feelings. I didn’t think you would actually…”
“Oi, oi. It just turned out that way. I didn’t consult the weather and ask it to rain or anything, you know.”
“Just teasing you,” Sho joked as he swung their linked hands gently back and forth.
Nino flushed warmly as they slowly strolled past the canteen.
"NINO-KUN!"
The pair looked around to see Aiba running towards them with Ohno in tow.
"Where have you been?! And you two are soaking wet!" Aiba said hurriedly.
"Nino-kun, are you okay?" Ohno said worriedly, "when you bolted off, I decided to come back when the rain stopped, but.."
Ohno then caught sight of Sho and Nino's hands interlocked with each other.
".. Oh..." Ohno mused and looked at Aiba, "Aiba-kun, I think we are interrupting something."
"Huh? Ohno-kun what are yo- OHHHHHHH!" Aiba exclaimed in surprise as he pointed at their joined hands.
Sho and Nino blushed as their friends finally got an idea about what was happening.
"See, Nino?! I KNEW you liked him more than you know!"Aiba said excitedly as he scooted the pair ahead of them, "you know, this calls for a round of beer at my room. Let's go buy some!"
"Huh? Oi, Aiba-cchi!"
"I know you lovebirds still want some time on your own," Aiba teased,"but remember you have forever to be with each other."
"AIBAKA!"
Aiba laughed as he dragged Ohno with him and hurried off towards the nearest shop.
"I swear, those two,"Nino muttered under his breath, only to feel Sho wrap an arm around his shoulder.
"Can't blame them for being happy for us," Sho said, "more importantly, we need to hurry to your room."
"What for?"
"Oh, you know," Sho answered with a grin, "let you take a shower and warm up a little. And if they are still not back, well..."
Sho then whispered sexily in Nino's ear.
"I can take a turn and warm you up instead."
Nino blushed and gave Sho a playful shove before taking his arm and walking along with him, leaning softly against him as they both walked away.
Nino took a backward glance at their secret hideaway and smiled, guessing that like Sho, he would be going back to that same spot again every now and then.
A/N: (': *dabs eyes* One of the best confession scenes I have ever written. I'm proud of this. <3
Thanks so much, dear readers for putting up with my late releases (I had to make sure this scene was FLAWLESS and re-edited it over and over) and THANKS SO MUCH FOR READING AND COMMENTING! *tosses free cookies to everyone* I've had so much fun writing and publishing this. (:
Well, I guess this is just in time for me to brainstorm for ideas for the Ohno exchange XD I have one idea already, but I'm kinda trying to build an AU of sorts around it.
Well then, until the next series/oneshot! *^^*
